Penning

Cattle penning/sorting is a sport that the whole family can enjoy. Still Meadows Ranch is a great place for you and your horse to learn this fast paced sport. Join us every Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. for a little education, fun and competition. Teams will be able to run 2 sorting and 2 penning runs for $25 per rider.

For those who would like to cattlepen, but lack a horse - contact us a day in advance and we can have a trustworthy horse available for you.

If you lack a team...come anyways - we'll set you up with one!

2011/2012 Winter Cattle Sorting/Penning Series

Details:

  • Begins October 17, 2011
  • Cost is $25 per run.
  • No money is paid out.
  • Points are collected, and are collected on an individual rider basis.
  • Must attend at least 75% of jackpots to be eligible for prizes.
  • Riders may enter more than one run, but only the best run counts for points.
  • Children must pen/sort with parents in the draw run. If no parent is riding, then an adult will be asked to jackpot with the child(ren). During these runs, the child(ren)'s points will count. The adult's points will not count for this run, and they will not have to pay for this extra go.
  • Jackpot draw must be registred by 6:50 p.m.

Rules - 3 Man Sorting:

  • Wrong number crossing the line = no time.
  • 1 min. 30 sec. time limit with 30 sec. warning.
  • Draw pot jackpot.
  • Roughing = no time (roughing includes stepping, hitting, horse biting, running over cattle, etc.).
  • All riders must be across the line with one rider's hand up above shoulder height calling "time" for the clock to stop.
  • All riders must be mounted when time is called.
  • Spotting by spectators is not allowed.

Rules - Cattle Penning:

  • Wrong number in the pen = no time.
  • 1 min. 30 sec. time limit with 30 sec. warning.
  • Draw pot jackpot.
  • Roughing = no time.
  • All riders must be across the line with at least one rider at the pen opening with horse's nose past the gate and hand raised above shoulder height when "time" called for the clock to stop.
  • Riding inside the pen past the saddle cantle = no time.
  • All riders must be mounted when time is called.
  • Spotting by spectators is not allowed.
  • Wrong numbered cattle crossing the line (all 4 feet) after 30 sec. warning = no time.
  • Rider rattling the pen to encourage a non-assigned animal to leave the entrace of the pen = no time.
  • If more than 4 head of cattle are on the pend side of the cattle/start line at one time = no time.
  • Contact with or hazing cattle with hats, ropes, reins, etc. = no time.

Decisions made by the flagger/timer are final.
No alcohol permitted on the property.
Riders to clean up after their horses.
Smoking is not permitted in the arena.

If -20 or colder, jackpot will be cancelled and rescheduled.
